My Dear, Sweet Momma’s Theme Song

It has been ten years ago this day that my dear, sweet Momma went to her Heavenly reward.

Unlike five years ago, this sad anniversary didn’t ambush me.

Love you Momma.

NCAA Rushing Record Broken: The Perine Effect

I mentioned young Samaje(Sa-mah-jay) Perine(Pee-rhine) this past summer as the OU Sooners were preparing for the 2014 season.

He’s big for a RB at 5’11” and 245lbs, and also has excellent speed in the 4.4 to 4.5 forty yard dash range.

Not many had heard of the young man before his breakout game at WVU. He had offers from every D-1 school, but finally committed to OU over Bama during his Senior year of high school.

On Saturday November 22, 2014 in a driving rain at OU’s historic Owen field he set a new NCAA rushing record of 427 yards that I hope can last longer than the seven days the previous record stood.

Here are the records that he set on Saturday:
1. FBS Single-Game Rushing Record: previously held by Melvin Gordon, 408 yards
2. FBS Single-Game Rushing Record by a FRESHMAN: previously held by Marshall Faulk, 386 yards
3. Big 12 Single-Game Rushing Record: previously held by Troy Davis, 378 yards
4. University of Oklahoma Single-Game Rushing Record: previously held by Greg Pruitt, 294 yards
5. University of Oklahoma Rushing Touchdowns by a Freshman(19): previously held by Adrian Peterson, 15 TDs
6. University of Oklahoma Rushing Record In One Half: previously held by Adrian Peterson, 210 yards

It was truly an historic day, adding to the legacy of great RBs at OU, who now hold the single game rushing record in the NCAA(Perine), the NFL(Adrian Peterson) and the NFL RB with the most 100 yard games to start a season(Demarco Murray).

Congratulations to Perine, his blocking fullback Ripkowski and the entire offensive line for making this game historical.

NCAA Award Season Has Begun: OU Football

In the weekly Monday noon press conference, it was announced that Coach Bob Stoops and WR Sterling Shepherd have been awarded the Disney Sports Spirit Award. They will be the nineteenth recipients of the award which began in 1996.

The award will be presented at the 24th annual The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN, December 11.

For those not familiar with the Stoops/Shepherd story it is one that is heart warming, sad and uplifting, all at the same time.

There is an excellent video below that was shown on ESPN a few weeks back when Game Day was at Starkville that will be posted at the end of this piece. For a fuller story on these two award winners and why they were chosen, please click here.

Also, Sterling Shepherd is a semi-finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nations top wide receiver.

The words in the song “Sooner born, Sooner bred and when I die I’ll be Sooner dead” have never rung more true.

Grand Jury Decision On Officer Wilson Due Today

I spoke with a lady a few days ago who is from St. Louis and her husband is a judge. The folks in the St. Louis area are expecting the worst sometime after 4p.m. Central today, as no one (other than Michael Brown supporters and race baiters) believes that Officer Wilson acted improperly.

I wish those good folks in that area the best after the announcement.

I also wish the best for decent citizens across the country as those who are motivated to violence take advantage of the situation to act out.

For a brief primer on how we have reached this point Ben Shapiro sums it up nicely.

For those who can, arm yourselves. For those who can’t/won’t, don’t run to those who can/will.

NCAA Football: Excitement And Humor

Every college football fan knows game day is fun. The excitement and noise makes for an entertaining experience.

Rivalry games have an emotional element that adds to that experience. However, in the current era of college football many traditional rivalries have ended due to conference realignment, but the fans still feel as strongly towards their old rivals as ever.

Here is one example from eSECpn’s College Gameday. WVU and Pitt have been rivals for decades, but they haven’t played each other in four years. To WVU fans that doesn’t matter.

The next video is a pure delight. It is known as the loudest football game in OU’s storied history. It took place at OU on a nationally broadcast game with #1 Texas Tech versus #3 OU. What makes this video so special is it is ‘raw footage.’ There are no announcers blathering on incessantly, just the wonderful, natural sounds of 85,000 people watching a big game.

With only about a month remaining in the 2014 season, there will surely be more fond memories for college football fans.

Election Day 2014: The Evil Party Evicted Nation Wide

I noticed the Texas elections got little attention in the national news last night, since it was never close for the highest profile races and the fact that no member of the Evil Party has won a state wide office in twenty two years. Clearly understandable, since there were many close races across the nation and many shocking victories for the GOP, especially if one considers how close the various polls showed some races were…even though they weren’t.

Now she knows what it’s like to be discarded.

In Texas current AG Greg Abbott, as expected, won the election for Governor by twenty points(59.3 to 38.9). Personally, I thought he would win by an even larger margin, but the Evil Party thought they really had a great candidate, one that was firmly in lock step with their agenda and a dear, dear friend of the eugnenist at Planned Parenthood. She and her sleazy act will not be missed and I sincerely wish she would just go away, now.

In another election that was even more obscure, but was a significant victory for us in Dallas County, the abyssmal and corrupt District Attorney was defeated. While I’m sure he is quite sad today, no other person or group is sadder than the Innocence Project over his defeat. We now have a real DA with prosecutorial experience.

For further weepy, excuse making coverage for these two victories from the Dallas Morning news, there is this piece on the Governor’s election and this one for the new District Attorney.

For national election news, I recommend RCP as the go to source.

As for the many victories of the Stupid Party over the Evil Party nationwide, I am still absorbing the context of election day. If nothing else it gives a modicum of hope for the next two years.

Execution Watch: Miguel Angel Paredes(*UPDATED*)

paredes
*UPDATES*
Last meal: chicken & rice, corn, sweet peas, pinto beans, cornbread, and coffee cake, with a choice of water, tea, or punch to drink. (per Last Suppers)
Last words: “To the victim’s family, I want you to know that I hope you let go of all the hate because of my actions,” he said during his final statement. “The lion came here as a lamb.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Thug: Miguel Angel Paredes(age 18 at time of offense)
*Date of execution: October 28, 2014
*Date of Crimes: September 17, 2000
*Victims: Adrian Torres, Nelly Bravo, and Shawn Cain
*Last meal: No special requests, a shit salad would be appropriate.
*Final words: TBA
The only thing remarkable about this scheduled execution is…it is the last for 2014 and will make the tenth this year, with the next one scheduled for 14 Jan 15.
For Paredes it is farewell to bad news. There will be no more murders(involved in 5 that we know of), no more burning of bodies(4 that we know of), no more drive by shootings, no more shooting and wounding, no more DUI, no more kidnapping, no more criminal trespass and no more unlawfully carrying a firearm.  It took his enthusiastic involvement in the murder of three rival gang drug dealers to bring him to justice.
Sometime after 6p.m. Central time, Paredes will cease to exist, he will shuffle off from this mortal coil, he will be NO MORE.
