   Michael Mann and a number of other scientists released a study last week seeking to explain the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age, two events that many believe show climate variability has always existed and man is not the primary driver behind them. In the study Mann demonstrates that the two events were regional in nature, not global. Mann discussed the Medieval Warm Period in one of the released emails in an interesting conversation saying that “it would be nice to try to “contain” the putative “MWP”.

   New Study.

   Also, for clarification purposes, the 160mb file containing the CRU emails wasn’t hacked and may have not even been leaked.

   What’s the real smoking gun among the emails allegedly “hacked” from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit? We’ll get to that in a moment, but let’s first address the alarmists’ first line of defense — that the emails were stolen, and more than likely by some dastardly skeptic.

   Since news of embarrassing, if not incriminating emails broke last Friday, it has become clear that the CRU computer system was not “hacked” and the emails were not stolen. In fact, the file containing the emails had been assembled by CRU staff in preparation for compliance with a Freedom of Information request. The file was then stored in a publicly accessible portion of the CRU computer network — making it just a matter of time before someone discovered it. Why the file was so stored may never be known, but that’s not really what’s important.

   Nothing illegal or unethical was done to affect the file’s release.

   I don’t claim to know a lot about the science of global warming, but I’m a pretty fair judge of when someone is bullshitting me. And, the global warming hysterics have been setting off my BS detector for years.

     Yeah, I can’t explain that. Sometimes Blogger and WordPress don’t gee-haw on the track-back thingy.

     The linkage showed up on my dashboard, and I knew it was there, but it never showed up on the blog post. Strange!

   At the end of the hearing chairman Representative Edward Markey (D–MA) delivered an impassioned plea for the public to listen to the bulk of scientific results on climate change. “It would be better to accept the science,” he said. “A few e-mails,” he added, won’t undermine a “century of science.”
