MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s government is suspending all nonessential activity of the federal government and private business as the number of confirmed swine flu cases jumped.
The decision came as global health authorities warned Wednesday that swine flu was threatening to bloom into a pandemic, and the virus spread farther in Europe even as the outbreak appeared to stabilize at its epicenter. A toddler who succumbed in Texas became the first death outside Mexico.
Baby can you dig your man?

Among the swine flu mysteries: Why only deaths in Mexico?
I’m still waiting, but I ain’t afraid yet.
I heard Ft Worth schools are closing.
I heard that too.
Don’t get me started on Ft. Worthless…please!
I checked with my daughter in a suburb of Austin, and all is well.
I’m glad to hear it. I’m sure she’s keeping her eyes and ears alerted for warning signs.
Tell her if a guy shows up wearing a sandwich board, ringing a bell, and shouting, “bring out your dead”, then she should head toward Boulder CO.
Actually, she didn’t seem too concerned with it, and none of their schools were closing. The teachers were just reinforcing common sense to the kiddos, and having them wash their hands often, while saying their ABC’s.
From the number of tourists that are bringing swine flu home, it seems that this latest H1N1 virus is really pretty widespread in Mexico.
I don’t think the government would shut down its offices AND kill the tourist industry unless it thought it was facing a huge emergency.
I’m home today with a cough from a URI. I worry that if a parent hears me coughing, they will freak.
no doubt.
feel better soon!
Funny thing that the virus was first detected in the U.S. an there doesn’t seem to be any, not one pig infected or dead from the disease…
yeah, it just gets curiouser and curiouser
