There is an old saying that things are bigger in Texas.
On this 73rd and farewell performance in Cotton Bowl Stadium, the size of the can of whoop-ass that Ole Miss opened up on Texas Tech was big indeed.
Sparked by the twin MVP’s Dexter McCluster on offense, and Marshay Green on defense, the Rebels overcame an early 14 point deficit to dominate the Big-12 South champs 47-34.
Hotty Totty! Go Rebs.
(That’s hard to say for this die-hard MSU Bulldog). Read more from ESPN….
Behind Jevan Snead’s passing, Dexter McCluster’s squirming runs and some big returns by Marshay Green, No. 25 Mississippi overcame an early deficit and beat No. 7 Texas Tech 47-34 Friday in the final Cotton Bowl played in the stadium of the same name.
The Red Raiders (11-2) converted a pair of early turnovers into a 14-0 lead, but Snead led the Rebels to touchdowns on their next three drives, followed by a go-ahead field goal shortly before halftime.
Once Green returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter, Ole Miss (9-4) was well on its way to capping coach Houston Nutt’s first season in grand style.
This was Mississippi’s sixth straight win, matching its longest streak since 2003, when Eli Manning was a senior. That also was the last time the Rebels had been to a bowl.
This roll began when Ole Miss was only 3-4 and coming off consecutive losses following its stunning upset at the Swamp.
Although Texas Tech pulled off huge comebacks in its last two bowls, McCluster ended any such thoughts by barreling into the end zone with 4:34 left. When Rebels fans finished clapping, they began chanting “S-E-C! S-E-C!” They did so again with 1:37 left after Ole Miss snuffed out a 2-point conversion attempt, then again following a recovered onside kick.
A little louder and the chants might’ve been heard at the Big 12 offices about 12 miles away. Still, the message that the fourth-best team in the SEC, according to the polls, is better than the third-best team in the Big 12 will certainly be noted as schools from these leagues — No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Oklahoma — meet next week in the national championship game.
S-E-C!

Knowing how you are about your dawgs, I wasn’t going to say anything.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ole Miss’ victory. I would remind you it was a Texas High School product at QB for Ole Miss, that directed their offense. That Coach Nutt was able to get his team to play so well, and he inherited his players, says alot about his ability as a coach.
According to one scouting service, Texas High Schools have produced thirty D-1 prospects for this years signing date. Better tell your new Head Coach.
Just a minor correction, TT was a tri-champ for the Big 12 South, and not the school that represented the division in the Conference Championship. That would be OU, which exposed TT’s vulnerability to the running game, and whopped them upside the head for a forty-four point victory.
One thing about TT that really turned me off this season, was that goofy turd at right offensive tackle, number 76. He is the one that painted up his face like some pro wrestler, and had tattoos all over his arms. I don’t like tattoos, and think they are silly, but #76 has one on his left bicep that represents the Anti-Christ. That’s not just silly, but disgusting.
I am also enjoying the Sugar Bowl right now. GO UTES!
If LSU had played all season like they did the other night, it might be the Tigers facing the Sooners next week.
As for the big game next week, you know I will be pulling for the Sooners.
I won’t.
Watched a few minutes of the woop-ass in the Cotton Bowl. Texas could have their hands full against OSU. Gators or Sooners hmmmm. Thats easy go Sooners!!!!!!!!!
Chomp ‘em Gators!
Chomp ‘em Gators!
BOOMER SOONER!
Da-da-da-da-da-da….. ….. Go Gators!
Heh. My paternal grandfather’s name was Rebel.
How could anyone of think the sooners are going to win after the whooping ole miss delivered Graham Harrel. I cant stand Quartebacks like Harrel and Sam Bradford who have 20 completions in the first half and only 200 yards. You never see quarterbacks in the SEC have that many completions in a game and not throw for over 275. Yet alone SEC QB dont throw the ball 46 times in game. We actually rely on the run which wins football games. The sooners may seem like they have a running game but who the hell have the run against. Flordia just ole miss is going to Blitz and use their speed and tear up the sooners so called unbeateable offense. The Big South is overated. I dont even need to bring up the terrible Big 12 north, but the south I thought matched up well with the east and west of the SEC. Boy was i proved wrong when I watched my Rebels dominate. No conference comes close to SEC. Sure the Pac 10 is 5 and 0 but their bowl games sucked balls and they played no SEC team. Sooners are going down. Lets go gators keep the pride going.
gooch,
That’s alot of smack.
Remember the famous words of Gene Stallings, when he was an assistant to Bear Bryant…”The less you say before the game, the less you have to take back after the game.” Oh…and about ‘Bama, weren’t they just in the SEC champeenship game against the gators a few weeks ago, and held the #1 ranking for five weeks?
I’m looking forward to a good game. I don’t think OU will hang sixty on the gators, but they won’t be stopped either. Gators front seven can’t hang against the best front six in the nation. They will have to bring up safeties to help stop the run, and when they do…six.
Also, Bradford ain’t Harrell.
OU defeated more top twenty teams this year than any school, and that’s not a fluke.
Also, OU has plenty of speed on defense too, like the gators.
Many of the BCS games have been worthy of a championship game, and I hope this one will too. Just be glad it isn’t a Big Ten or Pac Ten team in it.
Speaking of which, one of the only times I pull for UT is when they play one of those yankee or left coast teams. So looks like I will be pulling for UT tomorrow night.
Swallowed those words didn’t you buddy? Hope you didn’t choke like your precious little sooners did.. SEC
No, didn’t choke, and neither did the Sooners.
Unlike you did in the airport bathroom stall.
