Just breaking from ESPN, embattled head football coach, Sylvester Croom, has resigned from Mississippi State.
Sylvester Croom has resigned as head coach of Mississippi State, ESPN.com has learned.
Ole Miss humiliated Mississippi State 45-0 on Friday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in the most lopsided Egg Bowl in 37 years. The Bulldogs finishing with 37 total yards and three different Mississippi State quarterbacks were sacked 11 times.
Despite the eight-win season a year ago and all the positive gains Croom made with the program, the Bulldogs have had only one winning season since 2000.

Yada, yada, yada, “positive gains with the program” …Riiiight. At least they didn’t say the “Croom is building the program the right way.” Arrrgggh.
So Long Sly. Thanks for everything. See you in the funny papers.

[...] Breaking: Sylvester Croom resigns at MSU [...]
I imagine a whole bunch of alumni had the Prez on their speed dial, and were banging the buttons hard, last night.
By resigning, rather than being fired, everyone gets to save face, and hopefully make the transition to the new coach easier, for the players who feel loyalty to Crooms.
He had to go.
in the last 6 months, we have a new Prez, new AD, new Baseball coach (BB is big at MSU), and now a new start in Football.
It’s a good day to be a bulldog.
I’m sure the prospect for a new start is a feeling of relief, right about now.
I don’t doubt Crooms is a good man, he just couldn’t coach, successfully, at this level.
Now, the new Prez and AD need to get serious, and form a committee that knows what they need to find. A coach with a history of success, and a great recruiter. Maybe asking D.D. Lewis to be a part of the head coach committee, would be a good idea. I don’t think MSU hiring a top coordinator from another school is necessarily the right approach.
Fullmer and Chavez are about to be unemployed.
