WFFOT: Fire Sylvester Croom Now

Update: Croom resigns

It is 31 – 0 at halftime in the Egg Bowl.

Another humiliating loss for the MSU Bulldogs.

If I have to hear another announcer drone on about how “Croom is doing it the right way,” or some other such happy-sounding BS, I think I will barf.

Croom has had 5 years to do it, right way or not. His teams can’t run, can’t pass, can’t block, can’t tackle, can’t kick, and can’t compete in the SEC.

Other than that, Croom is a great coach.

It is time to Fire Sylvester Croom.

FRIDAY LINKAGE:

Malls, hotels next victims in new mortgage crisis — The full scope of the housing meltdown isn’t clear and already there are ominous signs of a new crisis — one that could turn out the lights on malls, hotels and storefronts nationwide.

The Hedge Fund Collapse — As many as half the funds that existed earlier this year, when the industry topped out at 10,000 funds in business, could fail or be wound up in a year’s time, industry watchers estimate. Assets under management at hedge funds are falling as investors rush to pull money out of good funds and bad. In September, investors took out an estimated $41 billion from the sector, the largest monthly outflow of money since experts began tracking numbers. October looked even worse.

“Something is happening of historic proportions” – I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten – fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

What this depression could look like — look back 135 years the current economic woes look a lot like what my 96-year-old grandmother still calls “the real Great Depression.” She pinched pennies in the 1930s, but she says that times were not nearly so bad as the depression her grandparents went through. That crash came in 1873 and lasted more than four years. It looks much more like our current crisis.

Government bailout hits $8.5 trillion:
— The federal government committed an additional $800 billion to two new loan programs on Tuesday, bringing its cumulative commitment to financial rescue initiatives to a staggering $8.5 trillion, according to Bloomberg News.

That sum represents almost 60 percent of the nation’s estimated gross domestic product.

Citi says price of gold could go over $2000 next year – The bank said the damage caused by the financial excesses of the last quarter century was forcing the world’s authorities to take steps that had never been tried before.

This gamble was likely to end in one of two extreme ways: with either a resurgence of inflation; or a downward spiral into depression, civil disorder, and possibly wars. Both outcomes will cause a rush for gold.

  1. I didn’t know the dawgs were playing today.
I’m only getting a few games, one being Colorado at Nebraska.
Other than some stout defense, most years, Crooms teams have not been competitive. Five years is long enough, when there isn’t steady improvement. I can remember MSU having some excellent teams, years ago, and can’t imagine the alumni doesn’t remember too. With scholarship limitations, there are too many excellent players out there, for the dawgs to not be more competitive.

  2. they were awful.

Croom has had more than a fair opportunity to build a competitive program.

Even the defense was pitiful today.

    fire the bastid.

  3. I agree.
Looking at the history of MSU coaches, I was shocked to see that only two in it’s history had a 65% winning record.
BTW, my cousin in Houston bought Jackie Sherrill’s old ranch near Blanco, Tx. That was their escape hatch when Ike came rolling into town.

  4. Nuke, looking at blog stats, it would appear there are many of the same mind as you.

  5. dang, where’d I put those gold options. :???:

  6. I saw that n2l. Some plenty mad folks in bulldog nation

  7. Robert D, don’t forget you can send off your old dusty gold jewelry for some nice, clean cash.

  8. I saw that malls might collapse report thang. Are the news reporters reporting news or creating news?

  9. a little of both, I think.

  10. I saw the mall report too. Banks collapse, auto industry in trouble, third world countries close to collapse. But Damit! Now the malls are in trouble, we better do something. I’d like to see about half the malls in America disappear.

  11. Karl Rove is still making liberal heads explode.

  12. Lord Rove is a bright man, but I don’t share his optimistic view on B-HO’s agenda.

  13. Fire Croom. He stinks. Croom has had five years to build a program. Houston Nutt steps in and immediately transforms a SEC winless Ole Miss team from a year ago into an 8 win team.

  15. I am a diehard state fan and want to say that i met Croom in Jackson his first year. He gave a speech at the Hilton here and said that people would see D. Pegues line up behind center occasionaly to throw defenses off. (never seen him on offense and i believe he’s the fastest on the team. Another thing that irks me is the conservative of Croom. (i.e., the last minute or so of the first half at LSU when he decided to run the clock out. You have got to try to put points on the board especially with the momentum and time. These are just two of many many things that get under my skin. I wished we had Houston nutt at state. I’ve always liked him as a coach. He is a great motivator and another riverboat gambler and thats what it takes to win. I just know that coach “O” has to get nauseated when he watches his recruits play the way they do. Maybe we can find someone like him (Nutt). you cannot win in the sec with a one back set and a quarterback that can’t see over the linemens heads. I will quote my Dad and agree with him now, “Croom has to go, they need to clean house up there”. FIRE CROOM NOW.

  16. From VietNam To Afghanistan: A Family Of Heroes…

This is an amazing family of heroes who have been protecting our country and our lives for generations. They both earned the Silver Star and were presented it today, but Harris’ Dad earned his 39 years ago during the VietNam War. It’s about time!…

  17. Emery Bellard, inventor of the wishbone, and head coach at MSU during the late 70’s says that the Big-12, and specifically, Mike Leach at TT is the best offensive innovator in the college game.

The sad part about it is that both Leach and Bob Stoops left the SEC and transformed the B-12 into offensive powerhouses. That has even trickled down to the high schools, and there are now more good D-1 qb’s from Texas than anywhere.

It’s time for Greg Byrne to let Croom go, but I believe he’ll probably give Croom another shot with a new slate of coordinators. If Croom is true to his word, he will resign rather than let Woody Mc go. Works for me.

  18. Update: Croom resigns
    Link

  19. I find it interesting that Bellard would say that now, after what John Jenkins was able to accomplish in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Of course, Jenkins didn’t make many friends in the coaching ranks, as he was so abrasive. Paterno came to UH in the late 80’s, and asked Jenkins to show him how he ran the, now common, bubble screen, which Jenkins had perfected. Jenkins told him no, figure it out yourself. Paterno was miffed, he being a legend in his own mind, and beeyotched about Jenkins to all the D-1 coaches.
Leach was going to leave the OU program after the ’99 season, anyway. Leach was all about the run and shoot, with no emphasis on the running aspect. Stoops didn’t like the shooting only, and wanted a balanced offense, such as the one they have today. It’s interesting to note, that Tech has done better since putting more focus on the run this year, than in years past.
I mentioned it once before, the reason so many excellent QB’s are coming out of Texas, is because of the 7-on-7 summer league. QB’s, WR’s, RB’s, and DB’s only, no O or D-lines. They get out there and fling the ball around, and allows the QB’s to develop the timing and accuracy through repititon.
The QB at Ole Miss is from Stephenville, Tx, which has been using the spread offense, with many state championships to their credit, and performing well in 7-on-7 competition, since the early 90’s.
With all the tremendous athletes in the southern states, from Florida across to Texas, there is no reason for MSU to settle for mediocrity. With Ole Miss getting Nutt, the man Saban recommended as his replacement at LSU, MSU needs to step up and find a proven winner, and a proven recruiter.
