Re: Our Path to Victory at the Minneapolis-St. Paul
convention

Too many Republicans have tried to turn this nomination battle into a coronation, not a series of further election contests. Big mistake on their part. They are wrong. We know that we are running an underdog campaign, but that’s nothing new—we have always been the underdog. And yet a whole lot of onetime “overdogs” are now on the sidelines, licking their wounds. The Republican National Convention is seven long months away; a lot can happen in that much time. A lot will happen.

But in the meantime, as you all know, Governor Huckabee is not a quitter. He has never shirked from a challenge, and he never will. He has always told us—and personally reaffirmed to us just today—that he is in this race to win. That is, to win the Republican presidential nomination, and to win the White House. Why? Because he cares deeply about the issues that inspired him to get into politics in the first place—back in the 60s, when he started studying the works of the great conservative thinkers and writers, back in the 70s, when he was an ardent supporter of another underdog Republican. And what was that fellow’s name? Oh yes—it was Ronald Reagan.

So don’t let anyone tell you that it’s over! In fact, as of today, no fewer than 27 states, districts, and territories have not yet had a chance to vote. That includes such big states as Texas (Chuck Norris’ home state, ‘nuff said), Ohio, and Pennsylvania. All the Republicans and Republican-minded independents in those states want to be part of the process, too, and they deserve to have a choice put before them. Folks don’t want the Republican Establishment to pick the nominee for them, through a premature rush to judgment, and they sure as heck don’t want the media to pick the nominee!

We note that in many of the hottest contests so far, the vote has been divided into thirds—typically, about one-third for Gov. Huckabee, one third for Senator McCain, and one third for all the other candidates. And as you know, typically, Governor Huckabee has done best among hardcore Republicans—the activist base. That’s one reason why we are looking forward to Governor Huckabee’s speech to the legendary CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, in DC tomorrow morning. You’d better believe that the folks gathered at the Omni Shoreham hotel are the go-getters who make or break primary elections. Just wait till they get a load of Mike Huckabee!

We are confident that we will get most of the activists, the folks who work the hardest because they care the most about the issues. In addition, we note that many of the jurisdictions that have already voted have merely had the first round of their delegate-selection process. To be frank, there’s still plenty of time for politicking, as Republicans really focus on the question of who should lead their party into the November election. Who’s the most stalwart champion of Republican and conservative values? Who’s the most articulate and effective campaigner? We know the answer to those questions—that’s why we have been working our hearts out for Mike Huckabee. But soon, everyone paying attention will know that, too. As the campaignseason grinds on—and let’s again remember, this is just February!—there will be plenty of time for reflection and reconsideration, especially among those hundreds of delegates pledged to candidates who have now dropped out.

As we saw in West Virginia on Tuesday—where Governor Huckabee swooped in on the day of the state convention and won a decisive victory that changed the tone of the remaining Super Tuesday coverage—a single good speech from our candidate is often worth more than all the tens of millions of dollars, and all the big-shot endorsements, that the other candidates have been able to drum up.

Indeed, it’s interesting that Mike Huckabee has done so well in the states so critical to Republican prospects this November. That is, those “swing states” that are essential building blocks of a Republican victory coalition this year. Let’s face it: This November, we’re not likely to be looking forward to a GOP landslide! The last two presidential elections were close—the GOP won 271 electoral votes in ’00, and 286 in ’04—and we fully expect the ’08 election to be hard-fought and close, too, as both parties wrestle to get the majority of those 538 electoral votes. What does all this mean to Republican activists? Well, it means that the next Republican nominee has to be able to nail down the electoral votes of such “must-win” states in the South and Border States—exactly the states where Mike Huckabee has done so well this year. Hard-nosed political activists know that it doesn’t do much good, November-wise, to run well in the blue bicoastal states. Sure, it would be great to carry New York and Massachusetts and California, but those mostly liberal states aren’t a part of any gut-it-out “270” strategy. (In fact, we think that Mike Huckabee would actually run stronger among traditional Independent and Democratic constituencies than any other Republican, but that’ll be the subject of a future memo.)

And now, with the endorsement of Dr. James Dobson, who is the “gold standard” of social conservatism, we fully expect that Movement Conservatives—those who fight the good fight on Life, on Marriage, on the Second Amendment—will increasingly rally to our cause. In fact, come to think of it, any American who reveres the US Constitution has a stake in Mike Huckabee’s success, because he has been an unstinting proponent of all our Constitutional freedoms, including the First Amendment, which he believes has been wrongly abridged by wrong-headed campaign finance “reform” legislation. Of course, there is one amendment that MH doesn’t like: The 16th Amendment. That one was a mistake, which he will fix with the Fair Tax!

Mike Huckabee has great respect for John McCain. He has always defended the senior senator from Arizona against unfair and scurrilous attacks, and he always will. And because MH is who he is, he will continue to campaign as he always has—in an honorable and honest way. He will draw distinctions, he will debate and debate hard, but he will always be civil and decent. In fact, even many McCain supporters have told us that they appreciate the constructive role that Governor Huckabee can play in the months to come, because a vigorous discussion will keep all the media “oxygen” from migrating over to the heated Democratic contest.

Faith. Family. Freedom. Those are the words that have guided Mike Huckabee this far, and they will continue to guide him, and us, all the way to the White House next January. The 44th governor of Arkansas will be the 44th President of the United States.

See you at the Inauguration!

  1. Just look at this BS!
David Keene, the chairman of the CPAC had this to say today.

“Mike Huckabee increases rather than diminishes the problems” because of differences with conservatives over taxes and immigration

The fix is in for tomorrow.

  2. I’ve checked the CSPAN schedule, and if his speech is televised, I will be surprised.
    Gotta crash.
    See y’all tamale.

  3. And his wanting to normalize trade with Cuba when he was governor.

  4. Yeah, he did write a letter to the President, as he felt it was in the best interest of the agricultural community, including Arkansas’ struggling rice farmers. That was in 2002, the same year Mitt was saying he was pro-choice. Then in 2007, he changed his view on that after meeting with Cuban-American officials, and was later endorsed by Marco Rubio, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. Mitt became pro-life in 2007 because it was the conservative thing to say, but he gets a pass on his flip-flops, he’s the chosen one, the conservatives conservative. BTW, it was Fred who pulled out that bit about Mike being for normal trade relations with Cuba, just hours before Mike met with Cuban-American officials. I guess Fred was doing the dirty work for the GOP establishment.

  5. [...] after depriving Mike of needed votes, but he isn’t quitting either, unlike those two. In this letter by his campaign manager, the message is clear, and he will fight on until he or McCain has the delegates needed, or maybe [...]

  6. Ed…here a letter to MH…this is how he can win…

    Mr. Huckabee:

Don’t drop out. You’ve been my first choice since Newt decided not to run. (Sorry, I’ve always been a Newt guy–six months ago, you were a new name to me.) I want someone who will put God first, ego second, in the Oval Office. That’s you. I want the chance to vote for you in Ohio next month.

Please entertain this strategy. Approach Newt, now, and convince him to allow you to announce him, now, as your potential VP running mate. There are so many disheartened conservatives who are anti-McCain–but for some reason won’t embrace you. With Newt as potential VP, you win them over.
I’m urging this , now, because as you know, tomorrow is “Chesapeake” Tuesday. Newt is an “insider” outsider. Not only would that help you, but it would also make news.
    There are more advantages:
    1) Who else but you and Newt can beat Obama, in a respectful, intelligent, issues-oriented way? McCain will play dirty; and it will backfire.
    2) You both want to put God back in the public square.
    3) You’re both intelligent guys, who do things a little different.
    4) He would help you greatly at the convention, persuading McCain delegates to “turn” your way.
    5) He would help you greatly at the convention, rounding up “wasted” Romney delgates.
    6) He could offer his assistance/support to you in demanding a proper vote count in Washington State.
    7) Newt supporters have a lot of money.

There is also an advantage that you have, that no one else does, in such a pairing. Many say that Newt is unelectable because of his past marriage/divorce issues.
You, as a former Pastor, understand better than anyone, the power of forgiveness. I too am a born again; I know that your public acceptance of Newt would do a lot to smooth over those former-possible-fidelity-issue wrinkles.

Yes, you two have some differences. But set those aside. You’d be his boss anyway. The country needs you. This plan would help greatly.

So, this could give you the shot in the arm (free press) you need. Even a public announcement of a private meeting with him today would do wonders. Tell Drudge right now, and everyone will be talking about it this afternoon.

    Please seriously consider this.

    Thanks for listening.

  7. JM
I like the way you think.
    Oh, and welcome to nuke’s.

  8. Hey JM.
I could get on board with a HuckaNewt ticket.

  9. Good to see your nic up, nuke.
Hope all of your family and loved ones are doing okay.

  10. we’re hanging in there.

  11. Businesses do NOT save 22% on this nonsense, they can NOT lower their prices 22% because of this farce.

Look at Ford and GM for example. IF you think they can lower their prices 22 percent, because they wouldnt pay corporate income taxes — you are insane. They don’t pay corporate income taxes NOW. They haven’t for years — cause they are losing money.

Almost no airline has paid corporate taxes for years either.

Yet Fairtax would RAISE the prices of their products to absurd levels.

How will taxing renters 30% on their rent help our economy?

How will taxing cancer victims 30% on their surgery and chemo help our economy?

How will taxing nursing home patients 20-30,000 a year help our economy?

How will taxing people who buy new homes 50-200,000 help the sale of new houses?

Fairtax is actually absurd nonsense. Not only would it be the worlds HIGHEST sales tax — it would be a tax on things no other country even taxes — medical costs for example.

But the biggest absurdity of this farce – and fairtax is literally a farce — is that Fairtax would make the FEDERAL government pay 800 billion a year — TO ITSELF. Which is about as dumb as you can get, and still be able to exhale. The federal government CAN NOT POSSIBLY pay itself 800 billion or more a year. Or even 8 dollars a year.

Neal Boortz writes in his Fairtax (Farcetax) book, page 148 “The federal government ITSELF would become a MAJOR taxpayer.”

Nonsense — utter nonsense. When the federal government “pays” itself, it has to WRITE the check that it CASHES. Where on earth do you think the money will COME from, when it PAYS those checks?

This absurdity is how Fairtax can make fools believe the tax would “only” be 23%. Take away this absurdity, and the REAL rate would be over 50%.

SO Fairtax can’t possibly BE 23-30 percent, which would be a disaster anyway. It would be much higher.

Imagine a 50% sales tax on a new house. Imagine what THAT would do to new home sales. Imagine what a 50% sales tax would do to new car sales, to nursing home patients.

This lunatic fairtax is on car insurance too — health insurance, utility bills, gasoline, phone bills, cable bills, food, everything you buy.

What do fairtax groupies think will happen to new home sales, when they tax it 30-50%? Here is a clue — new home sales would plummet. Who in their right mind would pay 500,000 for a house that would otherwise sell for 300,000? Not many. New home sales would go into the toilet.

And BECAUSE they would go into the toilet, fairtax would have to rise even MORE, to make up for that lost income.

And other parts of the economy would ALSO go into the toilet, like auto sales, so Fairtax would have to rise even more.

I actually hope it passes. Its so stupid, so insane, so absurd, that maybe if we pass it, we can learn something about economics in this country.

But the real funny thing about this Farce tax, is that its leaders know its bullship. They know you can’t really make the federal goverment pay itself 800 billion a year, they know that new home sales and car sales would go into toilet, they know that nursing home paitents and cancer victims aren’t going to pay this huges sale tax.

They know Fairtax can’t possibly collect half as much money as it needs. They don’t care. They aren’t really trying to pass it. THey are trying to fool gullible people — to get elected, to sell books, to get attention. And that part is working.

IF Fairtax leaders really believed this nonsense, why havent they done more to actually pass it? It has over 50 sponsors in Congress. It supposedly will be the biggest economic wonder in the history of mankind. It supposedly will save American companies five hundred gazillion dollars — why hasn’t it passed?

Cause its NONSENSE, and its own “leaders” know it.
