Family Business

At our family reunion, 1995, my cousin came over to me and asked me if I liked my job.  It kind of caught me by surprise:  we really weren’t that close, he was about 10 years older, and we ran in different circles.  His next question was equally surprising; “How much did you make last year?”  Well, I hemmed and hawed and said, “I’m doing ok…”

To make a long story short, he told me about a job opportunity with the company that he worked for.  I followed up on it and a few months later, made a career change to the job and company that I have today.

He wasn’t kidding me about an “opportunity.”  It is without a doubt the best job I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few.  I’ve made more money and met more people than I ever thought possible.

He taught me everything I know.

We became very close friends.

He died today.

My heart is broken.

I’m going to be out of pocket for a few days.

  1. Dangit, I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t know what else to say right now…..

  2. I’m sorry to hear about your loss, Nuke, but glad that you got the opportunity to really connect with each other. I have had no adult relationships with my cousins, and in my memory they remain forever frozen in childhood.

  3. thanks y’all.

  4. Dang, nuke!
    Sure sorry to hear that.
Besides your grief, I sure hope his family is doing okay.
