At our family reunion, 1995, my cousin came over to me and asked me if I liked my job. It kind of caught me by surprise: we really weren’t that close, he was about 10 years older, and we ran in different circles. His next question was equally surprising; “How much did you make last year?” Well, I hemmed and hawed and said, “I’m doing ok…”
To make a long story short, he told me about a job opportunity with the company that he worked for. I followed up on it and a few months later, made a career change to the job and company that I have today.
He wasn’t kidding me about an “opportunity.” It is without a doubt the best job I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few. I’ve made more money and met more people than I ever thought possible.
He taught me everything I know.
We became very close friends.
He died today.
My heart is broken.
I’m going to be out of pocket for a few days.

Dangit, I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t know what else to say right now…..
I’m sorry to hear about your loss, Nuke, but glad that you got the opportunity to really connect with each other. I have had no adult relationships with my cousins, and in my memory they remain forever frozen in childhood.
thanks y’all.
Dang, nuke!
Sure sorry to hear that.
Besides your grief, I sure hope his family is doing okay.
