Thompson crowd goes negative

Following their candidate’s decision to air a negative ad in the Youtube debate, a growing number of right-of-center bloggers have begun an all-out effort to distort and smear Mike Huckabee…..Who’d a thunk it. Hillary and Fred both decide to go negative at the same time. Heh™

Sorry, Jay 777, but I don’t think this is the ACLU’s position on Gitmo….

Press Release: “The men and women of our Armed Forces have served and acted honorably in their duties at Guantanamo Bay and we greatly appreciate their service in keeping our nation free, safe and secure.
I have visited Guantanamo Bay and know that the detainees are more than adequately cared for.

My concern is that the facility has become a distraction from our Global War on Terror. Other facilities, like Fort Leavenworth, can serve the same purpose without the controversy.

As for specific procedures concerning detainee adjudication, like all Americans, I await the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Boumediene case, which will determine if detainees have habeas corpus rights.

As President, my overriding concern in dealing with the suspected terrorists will always be our national security interests. As I stated in June, my first priority will be the protection of the American people and ensuring that all suspected terrorists remain in our custody.”

Somehow, the Thompson crowd thinks this is being “soft on terrorism.”

Funny part about it is, I’ve thought that Fred was a pretty decent candidate, just not my first choice. His decision to run a negative campaign has changed that for me.

  1. This morning on Fox I saw Mike make a point of telling people that closing Gitmo didn’t mean letting the prisoners go. I thought it odd at the time as it was pretty early by vacation standards, but I later learned that part was left out by most everybody. Mud slinging and spinning at it’s worst.

  2. For the first time, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has taken the lead among the Republican field in a national poll.

The Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll released Wednesday showed the former Arkansas governor with 20 percent, compared with Rudy Giuliani at 17 percent. Even though Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney have played strong in early voting states like Iowa, Giuliani has led the field in practically every national poll since the race began.

Watch for them all to go negative now. Everybody hates a leader, and this is REALLY Top Dog status!

  3. It’s no wonder Israel called bullshiite on this one.

  4. Yeah, and W too, in his gentlemanly way.

  5. TEL AVIV — Israeli officials yesterday disputed the conclusions of Monday’s surprise U.S. assessment of Iran’s nuclear program, citing “clear and solid intelligence” that Iran is continuing to develop nuclear weapons to threaten Israel and Europe.

“We have no doubt,” said one Israeli official, who requested to remain anonymous. “If one looks at the investment, if one looks at the nature of the project, if you look at the cost to the Iranian economy, there is no logical explanation other than that the Iranian program is not benign.”

I think I’ll go with Israel on this one. They seem to have a lot less corruption, and more cooperation over there.

    Israel challenges report on nukes

  6. He is always the gentleman, isn’t he?

  7. A few things about Iran. First of all, the nuclear program began long ago, when Rafsanjani was the president. A nuclear Iran has been the policy of the Mad Mullahs for decades, even though the Ayatollah Assahola scrapped the nuclear program the Shah had begun in the 70′s. Next, when Ahmadamdingdong became president, their program was well under way, and buried deeper after the Israeli’s destroyed Iraq’s reactor.
Ahmadamdingdong had three main goals when he became president, approved or directed by the Mad Mullahs, and one of them was to get oil to $100 a barrel. They need the cash badly, as they not only have a faltering economy, but the things they wanted to buy were very expensive. So oil has been at or near that amount for weeks, yet the Iranian president apparently doesn’t have the funds to travel around the provinces of Iran. I found this story last night, but didn’t quite know what to make of it, but the Israeli comment you posted above makes the following link come into focus.
Salaries Cut to Pay for Ahmadinejad’s Provincial Tours.
The Iranian people ain’t happy…just wish they could put their anger and frustrations into action, and not a paper bag.

  8. Robert D, a reminder, if you have the Outdoor Channel, today is ‘Shootin’ Show” day, with six or more gun enthusiast shows in a row.

  9. Iran need not worry, The dhems are coming to the rescue.

    Iran and its Democratic friends

  10. Thanks for the reminder 2nl, no Outdoor Channel. Be back in a bit, computer is getting slow connecting back and forth.

  11. I wonder what that guy did to PO Spidy & Batman?

  12. Mike Huckabee Defends Role in Parole of Convicted Rapist Who Went on to Kill.

New Republican presidential frontrunner Mike Huckabee is “categorically” denying that while governor of Arkansas he tried to pressure the parole board to release a convicted rapist who later went on to rape and murder a Missouri woman.

“No. I did not. Let me categorically say that I did not,” Huckabee said Tuesday, adding that while governor he denied a request for Dumond’s commutation.

    The Rest

  13. I’ve heard Mike explain this issue on live radio several times. It’s not going to go away. You either believe he, a brand new Republican Governor in a state dominated by Dems since Reconstruction, had the ability to convince a pardon and parole board, composed of all Dems, to do his bidding. As Mike has said, if you believe he has that power of persuasion, then he should be elected President.
One thing that has never been explained to me is, how did Dumont commit a rape, years after being castrated?(???)

  14. the castration was just his knuts.

  15. I was under the impression that castration removed libido, but apparently I was mistaken, as it only has that effect if the castration is done pre-puberty, and if the individual doesn’t take hormone replacement.
    Effects of Castration.

  16. I have a very soft spot for old folks, always have, that’s why it pains me to call a doltish old man a fool and a propagandist, that tries to use his former prestige to spread defeatism. Just like he did in Viet Nam.
    Walter Cronkite’s latest BS.

  17. The only thing that even comes close to the truth in that article is that Bush doesn’t want to lose the war. The rest are outright lies.

  18. I know, I couldn’t even read most of it after the first four paragraphs, it was such a distortion of facts.

  19. Yikes!
    That’s what they do!

    In other news…WHOO-HOO!
    Narnia Returns!
    Official poster here.

  20. They just did a review and shooting demo of the Marlin 39A, a scoped version, on Guns & Ammo Tv.

  21. 150+ channels and I have to miss the shooting shows.

  22. How did it do?

  23. Very nicely. It was a top grade model, with a nicer than average stock, but still the same gun, and it’s groups were very good.
Who is your service provider? If it is one of the satellite companies, they have Outdoor Channel, but you may need an upgraded sports package.

  24. DirecTV. I just can’t afford any more packages. If it was an ala carte thing we could get by with 30 channels tops, but the sneaky bastids keep moving the channels around to make you by more packages.

  25. GLOBAL WARMING ALERT!
Kangaroo Farts Could Ease Global Warming.
    /they don’t want mine

  26. I know what you mean.
I had DirecTv for years, before I went with cable for the broadband, and I’ve been well pleased.
DirecTv offered a sports package for ten bucks a month, and it gave me a ton of sports programming, but I don’t think they still offer that same one. Go to their website and see what hoops you might have to jump through, to get it.

  27. That’s funny. What’s even funnier is the fact that they worry about farts in the outdoors. People are stupider than the cattle they they want to filter.

  28. Now THAT really hurts.

  29. Just checked, directv charges $12 a month for their sports package, but since you aren’t into collegiate sports, you would be paying $12 for Outdoor channel.
    /no way

  30. Yeah, that won’t work. I need to review just what we get and what we need.

  31. They are constantly looking for something or someone to blame, all the while ignoring the fact that water vapor is the far and away number one greenhouse gas. They ignore it, because there is nothing that can be done about water vapor, but they can cry about cow farts, and try and make us vegans. Then our farts would really be bad, and we would need to get rid of humans.

  32. They’d torture us first with some kind of ass-filter.

  33. The dudes on Guns & Ammo that tested the finish on the S&W M&P, they do some really destructive shiite.
They put a brand new M&P in a portable cement mixer, and threw in some fist sized rocks for two and a half minutes, then added marble sized granite chunks for another two and a half minutes, then added some pea sized rocks for another two and a half minutes. They took the pistol, with it’s now scarred up finish, cycled it a few times without cleaning it, put it on a rest, and it fired a mag just fine.
I like the M&P, I need to get one.

  34. Yeah, a butt-plug with a HEPA filter.
    LOL!!!

  35. S&W sure has rehabed itself since that Brady Bill fiasco. And it’s a good thing, I like their guns.

  36. is Nebraska a RTC state?

  37. It wasn’t S&W that needed rehab after Brady, it was Ruger, but S&W’s problems were with their European companies ownership, and the deal they struck with Cuomo and HUD. When S&W’s sales dropped off the table, they looked for a buyer, and some of the S&W employees managed to find the money to buy it, and man have they performed ever since.
    Their products are outstanding.

  38. I don’t know, let me check.

Yes, but only since 2 Jan 07, so probably not many licenses issued, but that will change PDQ.

  39. Dang, I have two Rugers, hope they rehabed also. I forgot just which group of LLL’s S&W dealt with.

  40. You don’t know the story of what Bill Ruger did during the Brady Bill/Assault Weapons Ban era?

  41. Guess not. Or the CRS is getting worse.

  42. Hey, I had half my story right………there was Brady Bill and S&W, I just missed Ruger and Cuomo.

  43. It’s a long, sad, and self-serving story.
Papa Bill’s “magazine capacity limitation” legislation.
After things got resolved, he was still one of us, but he made a lot of folks mad with his back-stabbing. Me for one. I own no Ruger’s to this day.

  44. It’s getting clearer. I have a Ruger of high capacity that cannot be sold with the clips.(bought years before he went to the other side) The other two were inherited. (forgot about one) Dangit, guess the value dropped on those.

  45. When did nuke go to eastern time on the blog? Or have I been unobservant once again?

  46. must be increased sunspot activity

  47. I think the clock has been set like that for a while…I think.

Uhh…clips are not magazines. You live in Cali, that’s why, and I bet you had to register those with the authoritah.

  48. That’s why they call me Grasshopper.

  49. That dang sun is responsible for everything. (except global warming)

  50. Grasshopper?
    That’s a chick drink.
    Clips Are Not Magazines.
Clips are what chicks put in their hair.

  51. Uhh…clips are not magazines.

They are here. If it is external and fits into any gun, ten rounds max.

  52. Gnite yall

  53. Give me enough rope…..

  54. g’nite nuke.

  55. Grasshopper-I meant the learning part.

  56. Oh, the Kung Fu reference.
Thought you was getting girley on us.

  57. Were is our girley part btw?

  58. Don’know!
She popped in for one comment last night, and not a howdy-doo or fare-thee-well.
    Nothin’tonight.

  59. OOH…Dogfights is on.
