Heavy rains and high winds belted parts of the state early Tuesday, causing flooding, forcing street closures and damaging houses and other structures…
Gov. Rick Perry has ordered search and rescue teams to be at a high state of readiness to provide rapid responses when necessary, according to a state emergency situation report.
The severe weather shows no sign of letting up, according to the National Weather Service.
Hang in there, y’all.
Here’s SRV live from the Mocambo Room, doing Texas Flood.

When I heard that Texas got 18″ of rain yesterday, I was worried about ol’ n2l maybe gettin’ washed downstream into Mexico. Glad he’s still with us.
Some areas of the Hill Country, NW of Austin, got as much as eighteen inches of rain yesterday.
Here in Dallas, we are officially on the cusp of a disaster. The Trinity river is levee to levee through the downtown area, and all seven pumping stations, with thirty two pumps, are pumping full speed, to keep the water in the river. NW of the DFW area, the Brazos river is out of it’s banks, and rising. An area known as Horseshoe Bend has been forced to evacuate, as they are going under fast. Three dams below there on the Brazos are fully opened, and they are about to open a fourth.
Here’s a link to a local news station.
It started raining here early in the afternoon, and rained until after 9:30p.m. at the rate of two inches an hour. It was amazing to see it rain for so long, and so steady. Typically, June is one of the months with the lowest rainfall totals.
I ain’t complaining, though, as long as the floods don’t come. I hate to see folks lose all they have, and for those that get caught out in it, and get killed.
I thought about Texas Flood earlier, but when I saw how high the water was on the levees, near town, I thought of Memphis Minnie.
Yep, Swampie. Still here. I’m in a pretty high and dry area, with a big creek downhill from me, that would have to go biblical before it got to me.
I mean…it’s June for goodnes sakes.
We should be having 95 degree days, and thinking about high school football starting up in a couple of months.
Here’s some short videos of my high schools scrimmage before school let out in May. The occasion is spring training, with the Red-White scrimmage.
Best Run of the scrimmage.
Best Hit.
hey there No2…jus got back from Texas and had a nice sampling of that rain rain rain! Heh
Hey Angel.
I saw your posts.
I don’t think you quite saw what is happening now, though.
Be glad!!
We’re still not getting the rainfall we should. Hope that it ends soon for you. When those droughts break, they tend to go overboard, and I sure hope it eases up for Texas soon.
Yeah, we were officially removed from the US Drought Report, as of 1 May, and I can’t begin to tell you how much rain we’ve gotten since then. All of those prayers for rain for the past two and a half years got answered all at once.
With the cooler than normal temps, and all of the rain inspired by cool fronts and low pressure systems, I wonder if it means the hurricane season in the Gulf will be low?
There has only been one named system so far, that I know about, and have no idea what the Gulf temps are running these days.
The chance for rain is supposed to decrease each day, but still in the forecast for several more days.
Talked to reaganite earlier, and he had just seeded his yard, and now most of the seed has washed away, and they have rain in their forecast for the next two weeks.
/yikes!
Heh. If it ain’t one thang, it’s another. I understand they spent over $800 for seed.
The UK is bashed by floods as well – 3 dead yesterday. Rained all winter, now all summer. They are trying to shore up a dam in Yorkshire that looks like it might burst. Flash floods twice in nearby Lampeter. Some are having a hard time of it….
Al Gore visited y’all to talk about global warming, didn’t he? He brings global cooling wherever he appears.
Hey, vimto.
Sorry to hear that…sux, don’t it?
BTW…it’s raining here in Dallas…again, and looks like it will be with us for the day.
Floods in Texas
I got a mail from World Vision. It sent an exclusive mail for the floods in Texas, Survivors of Texas Flooding Need Your Help!.
It is really severe:
• Treacherous Texas downpours take 11 lives in 11 days
• 10 inches of rain possible in some areas …
