Mississippi State defeated Clemson 8-5 before a NCAA record crowd of some 13,700 sun-drenched fans in Starkville today.
Mitch Moreland, who was the hitting star for the Dogs all weekend, came in from right field to pitch with one out and two on in the ninth inning to earn the save.
With their second victory in as many days, MSU earns a trip to the College World Series, beginning next week in Omaha.

The just turned 3-year-old is spending the night here to give Mommy a break. We have ambushed and squirted chickens with water guns, built endless block towers, had a dinosaur battle with the plastic dinosaurs that come a dozen or so to a bag, eaten ice cream, eaten french fries, eaten donuts, drank chocolate milk, (did I miss any food groups? Oh, yeah, the good for you food group. That’s the parents’ job), watched Shrek, and he finally fell asleep during Cars. SwampMan offered let him sit with him in his chair while he was watching t.v., but nothin’ doin’. He wanted to be beside me.
SwampMan said the newly hatched grandson is going to be HIS lil’ buddy, and I’m not to hold him or work my evil wiles on him in any way. Well, okay, then. Wonder if that extends to diaper changes?
