HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y., Feb. 18 (UPI) — Police on the east end of New York’s Long Island found the body of a man dead more than a year sitting in front of his television, which was still on.
Vincenzo Riccardi, who was blind from diabetes, had apparently not been seen or heard from since December 2005, Newsday reported. But his neighbors, thinking he had been hospitalized or moved to a nursing home, did not think to check on him.
The body was found Thursday by officers in Southampton who were checking on a report that a pipe had burst.
Jeff Bacchus, an assistant at the Suffolk County morgue, said the body was well preserved because of a lack of humidity.
“You could see his face. He still had hair on his head,” Bacchus said. “I’ve been on the job 35 years, and I’ve never seen anyone dead that long.”
Maybe it’s just that I live in a small town and I know my neighbors, but for this man to go for over a year, and not be missed, by ANYONE, just strikes me as very sad.

I’m thinking if we end up in that pandemic that may or may not happen anytime soon, there’s going to be lots and lots of lonesome bodies found only by a house to house search.
That was my thought as well, Nuke, how sad it was for the man to be dead and not have anybody to even notice he was missing.
hi Nuke..ah sigh..I read this as well..tragic isnt it?..makes ya grateful for your loved ones!
yes it does.
Bird flu outbreak in Japan blamed on rats. Hmmmmm.
Layne Staley of Alice in Chains had been dead for fifteen days, when his body was discovered, and I thought that was terribly tragic. He had become so depressed since his girlfriends sudden death from bacterial endocarditis, he had pushed everyone away, and was staying inside his condo, strung out on heroin and cocaine.
This video is one of the last performances he made with AIC, and you can see how strung out he is.
This is just awful. No family, friends or neighbors checked on him. So sad.
Hmmmm…. Where I live…they would have cut the power off the next month if the bill for the electricity wasn’t paid.So who paid the bill or did I miss something????
Sad,Sad
Since he was blind, I think he probably had his social security and/or retirement and/or disability check direct deposited, and likely his bills were taken out automatically as well.
