Li’l Kim and the Giant Rabbit

giantwabbit.jpgDiplomats and escaped dissidents talk of a vain, paranoid, cognac-guzzling hypochondriac.

He is said to wear platform shoes and wear a bouffant hairstyle in order to appear taller than his 5 feet 3 inches.

And now, Li’l Kim has discovered a way to beef up, err, I mean increase meat production in North Korea.

Giant Rabbits.
Gee, it’s all so clear to me now. How did I miss this?

A German pensioner who won a prize and worldwide fame for breeding his country’s largest rabbit — Robert, a 10.5kg (23lb) bruiser the size of a dog — has been offered an unusual opportunity to exploit his talents overseas.
Karl Szmolinsky has been given a contract by North Korea to supply giant rabbits to help to boost meat production in the reclusive Communist country, which is suffering severe food shortages. The only problem is that such huge rabbits consume vast quantities of food themselves as they grow.

Mr Szmolinsky, from Eberswalde, in the east of Germany, was contacted by the North Korean Embassy in Berlin in October after Robert attracted press coverage. “They want to boost meat production. They’ve arranged for me to go to Pyongyang in April to advise them on setting up a breeding farm,” Mr Szmolinsky, who is 68 next month, told The Times.

  1. Huh. Now why would Lil Kim want rabbits the size of a dog when he has actual dogs the size of a dog and no cultural compunctions about eating same? Rabbits probably convert feed to protein at a better ratio than dogs, but chickens and fish would probably have a faster turn-around time (to eating size) than giant rabbits. I’ve read that North Korea is reportedly having some success with tilapia.

  2. Not that I have anything against rabbits; I’ve raised New Zealand whites in the past for table consumption along with chickens. I highly recommend chickens and (normal size) rabbits for a quick conversion to protein, and a good dual purpose heritage breed will also provide eggs and raise the next generation.

  3. But from the article on Szmolinsky and the giant rabbits:

The rabbits are also voracious eaters, which is why Szmolinsky said that he would not be boosting his own annual production because feeding them would be too expensive.

  4. Well, maybe Lil Kim just has a thing for…bunnies.
Everybody is always picking on him, he’s so ronery, and with all the pressures of being the Emperor, now he has taken to drinking alone and often.

  5. Awwwwwwww, he looks kinda cute in his widdle bunny outfit. He should wear it more often.

  6. He should drink more of his recycled Brandy, from his personal brandy-snifter, too.
