I come to flank Digg, not confront them.
User-driven news stories now account for more than half of the content that is reported in the daily news cycle, and that trend shows no sign of slowing. Major print media have noticed, and are adapting their business models to embrace this concept. I predict those who do not will soon be referred to as “former” print media.
If you still think that the content of the daily news cycle is left-slanted because liberal editors in liberal news operations conspire to slant the news, then, 1980 just called and they want their Atari back.
However, if you know how to “Ctrl + c”, then you can help shape the news of the day. “Crtl + c”: that’s as complicated as it gets to be able to post serious news stories on one of the fastest growing 2.0 networks around: NowPublic.com. It really is that simple.
The Highlight publishing tool works with your firefox browser. Just highlight the portion of the story that you want the world to see and hit “publish”. It even creates your headline and your technorati tags. That’s it. Your news story has now become part Web 2.0, with the potential of being seen by millions of readers who might have otherwise not known, had you not taken a moment to inform them. And, if you want to, you can go back later and add links, photos, even video. Or, you can allow other members to add to your story as well. It’s so easy even a caveman conservative can do it.
It began to dawn on me around the 5th anniversary of 9/11, and I’ve been writing about it since. I heard one of the Democrat strategists talk about what a good job the President had done to “control the news cycle”, and for them to have success in the mid-terms, they were going to have to wrest control away from Karl Rove. I even heard Rahm Emmanuel complaining along those same lines. Well, you know what happened. And, it is no accident that 4 out of 5 of the top news stories of the day were not favorable to the President. It was largely because of user-driven news stories. Here is your chance to get in the game, folks.

Mornin’ Nuke. I have taken your advice and signed up at NowPublic. It must be the easiest thing I’ve done on the net. They have the program and ‘userbility’ uptight. If I can do it – so it anyone can!
I appreciate that vimto.
