Bootable USB Key and Free Magazines for DCoTers

by Tim Fehlman

Boot disks are so passe. All the cool kids (read ubergeeks) at the very least use bootable CDs. But, if you want to be one of the geek elite (or 1337), you are going to want to go for the bootable USB drive.

But how does one go about obtaining this new elevated nerd status? Well, PC Magazine has a very good article about just how to make a bootable USB key. Very cool!

I have been using a bootable USB drive with this solution for some time now. The article that I followed was one from Fred Langa of the Langalist which he wrote for InformationWeek. Both articles are very similar but if you get stuck on one, you can always look to the other for help.

  1. I’m still not as enamored with computers and it’s paraphenalia, as some.
    I’m more of an A/V-phile.
If you like A/V stuff, this link is for you.

  2. And if you’re not as enamored with electrical items as some, here’s a source for non-electrical powered alternatives.

  3. Here’s my wish list for my next vehicle.

  4. Actually, now that I think about it, I want something rocking chair comfortable for my next vehicle although still all wheel drive, of course.

  5. OK, I’m through with messin’ around and not working. Thanks, Nuke, for the computer links because I really, really need to get caught up on my computer stuff; the places I work tend to use proprietary software and I haven’t kept up.

  6. I just dunno if I’m impractical enough for one of those things. My vehicles tend to get driven hard and banged up and even in the days when I could afford to drive a little Mercedes convertible, I opted for a Chevrolet pickup.

  7. I always ask myself the questions: Will this purchase add to my bottom line and increase my net income? If yes, have I looked at all the options and chosen the one that minimizes my expenditure while maximizing benefits? And does it come in bright red?

  8. Ohhh…the old cost/benefit what color does it come in analysis.
I do that, and if it says maybe, I ask my butt if it approves.
