Circuit City currently currently sells this Compaq notebook for $499.

  1. So, uh, how much cash you gotta come up with BEFORE the rebates? Call me cynical, but I’ve been burned on “rebates” before. I’d prefer to pay more rather than depend on rebates that may never arrive.

  2. Sigh. It would be nice, though, to take my notebook computer into the living room and chill out in the La-Z-Boy courtesy of the wireless router and work while watching television…..But I think maybe I better stay in my office.

  3. That’s it Swampie, be professional…or you might wind up typing in dialogue from ‘Terminator 3′ into your transcripts.
As for the laptop deal, it sounds to good to be true.
Rebates? I’m still waiting on that rebate from Office Depot for my office chair. It’s only been three years since I sent it in…any day now, I just know.

  4. Oh, damn, you fell for the office chair rebate too?

/Yep, I never received it either.

  5. No..no..no!
    It’s still coming…maybe today.

  6. You know what I don’t like about laptops?
The screen is too danged small.

  7. Did you get the leather one with about a $70 rebate?

  8. Well, the $99 screen would likely have to be read with a magnifying glass.

  9. And I note that nothing was said about software.

  10. No, a different one, with lumbar support, cloth cover, with a built in shock absorber in the shaft, vibrator, and such.
    IIRC, the rebate was $50.00.
    /sounds like Office Depot policy

  11. ROFL, sounds like the ideal office chair….but then, who would want to leave the office?

  12. Well…it ain’t a $99 screen, until you get the rebate.

  13. After I got the leather one, I hated it; I went back and got one with better lumbar support and a (sigh) cloth cover for comfort. And I ignored everything that had a rebate.

  14. I like leather on some things, but not a chair where I will spend a fair amount of time. My butt and thighs sweat, and I need the fabric to breath.
Probably need to replace this one fairly soon, or figure out how to recover it.

  15. Well, I generally wear clothes when I work, so that wasn’t a problem.

  16. the extended warranty would cost as much as the laptop.

  17. Yikes!
I generally don’t care for extended warranties, but on a laptop?
    /that’s different

  18. I figured I needed to be pampered after my traumatic morning of being stuck in the nose with a HUGE needle and then having a biopsy and excision done. How big was that needle? When I saw it coming, I said “holy SHIT! Can’t you just slice it off without the lidocaine?” but they would not negotiate. So I went by my favorite seafood restaurant and got a salmon steak stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp. Everybody was kinda surreptiously eyeing the huge bandage across my nose but were far to polite to ask, and I just grinned and let them wonder. I was paying and getting ready to leave when the head of county road maintenance came in so I slid in to his booth and talked to him awhile. He was too polite to ask, too, and was unnerved enough staring at the bandage that I could probably have stolen all his shrimp and he wouldn’t have said a thing.

  19. Yeah, I think I’d definitely have to go for the warranty on the laptop, too. They break too darn easily.

/Need to find out the brand daughter’s is. It was about $1,200, (without warranty). It has already been thrown across the room landing on slate tile without ill effect.

  20. pages are loading verrrrry slowly

  21. She must have gotten this one.

Which is the only one I would want, though I think it is just a wee-bit more than $1,200.

  22. I’m loading slower than usual, but not unreasonably.

  23. Saw this really nice tribute to Milton Friedman, with video.
    Very nice!

  24. Well, being traumatized by needles doesn’t get me out of work; I just delayed it for a little bit. Later, y’all.

  25. Milton Friedman was a great man. I’ve been jumping around reading tributes to him.

  26. Hypocrisy…how abundant and rich thou art!

    Hope you feel better.

  28. I better hit it, as well.
Many errands to run, before my last appointment, so I can enjoy some college football tomorrow, after I return from hunting.

  29. Oh!
One cool video. It’s an AK-47 being fired full-auto, in slow motion, with the receiver cover removed, so you can see the hammer strike, and the mechanism operate.
    Enjoy!
